The torrential rains pounded Beijing on Saturday.The death toll has climbed to 37 as more bodies have been found.

Among the victims, 25 drowned, six were killed in house collapses, one was struck by lightening and five more were electrocuted. So far, twenty-two of the bodies have been identified. It was the heaviest downpour in Beijing in 6 decades.

Average precipitation reaching 170 millimeters, while a township in the suburban district of Fangshan recorded 460 millimeters of rain. A total area of 16 thousand square kilometers were affected, with a population of almost 2 million people.

The downpour has left parts of the power supply network underwater leading to blackouts in parts of the city.
