Is Affluence Important to Attaining Happiness?

There’s a controversial issue over whether the affluence matters happiness. Some people maintain a view that wealth is essential to one’s happiness, while others argue that one can still be happy no matter whether he’s well off or not. In this essay, I’d like to advocate and offer my own view on it.
A number of factors can be contributed to my argument. One of the most significant factors is that nowadays majority of people regard friendship and family bonds as vital parts in their lives which can not be purchased by money. Besides, the higher salary and status one person attains, the more responsibility he has to take and less leisure time he has—however, pastime is partially related to the sense of happiness. In addition, another contributing factor is that spiritual satisfaction greatly outweighs material needs, and that is the genuine fortune we want to attain.
As the materialism and individualism flooding into the whole world, we the college students should redefine the word “happiness”. Perhaps the sufficient money will fuel our appetite for material needs, while wealth can never be the only approach to happiness.
